How the Morning Flows
A perfectly paced Saturday in one of the most charming towns in Hampton Roads, trails first, then gather at Smithfield Station for as long as you like.
Park in the Windsor Castle Park designated section of the Smithfield Station lot. We gather here, say hello, and head in together. The hike starts at 9:00 AM sharp, please arrive by 8:50 so we can move as a group.
We enter through the Smithfield Station side of the park and set off together on one of the most scenic trails in Southside Virginia. 208 acres of woodland, open fields, tidal marshes, and creek views, with five pedestrian bridges and scenic overlooks along 3.8 miles of ADA-compliant trail. Easy to moderate pace. All fitness levels are welcome and encouraged. October is one of the most beautiful times to be here as the leaves begin to turn.

Join us for coffee, a Bloody Mary, a light bite, or a full meal, completely your call. It's a beautiful spot to decompress, connect, and enjoy the people you just walked three-plus miles with. Stay for 30 minutes or two hours. No pressure either way.

208 acres in the heart of historic Smithfield, one of Virginia's most beloved community parks, and a perfect October morning walk.
3.8 miles of ADA-compliant walking trails winding through woodland, open meadows, tidal marshes, and alongside Cypress Creek. Five pedestrian bridges and overlooks with benches placed along the route. Easy pace with stunning views the whole way.
The park is beautiful year-round, but October brings the added magic of early fall color through the woodland sections. Expect cooler mornings, crisp air, and the kind of natural beauty that makes you genuinely glad you showed up.
Windsor Castle Park is included on the Virginia Birding & Wildlife Trail. Birds, turtles, marsh wildlife, and peaceful creek views throughout. The overlooks are worth stopping for, bring your camera or your phone.

Smithfield Station
After the hike, we gather at Smithfield Station, a beautiful waterfront spot on the Pagan River. Grab a coffee, a Bloody Mary, or whatever sounds good. Completely optional, zero pressure.
A coffee, a Bloody Mary, a light bite, or a full seafood plate, order what sounds right after your morning walk. The menu runs from casual drinks to full entrees. Come for 30 minutes or stay for two hours. There is no obligation beyond good company.
Smithfield Station sits directly on the Pagan River with outdoor deck seating overlooking the marina and marshes. Established in 1986, this is one of Hampton Roads' most beloved waterfront dining experiences, and a fitting close to a great morning.

What to Bring
Pack light. The trail is easy and the social after is completely optional, just show up ready to walk and enjoy the morning.
Sneakers or light trail shoes. The paths are well-maintained gravel and boardwalk, nothing technical required.
October mornings in Virginia can still be warm. Stay hydrated on the trail, coffee and drinks at Smithfield Station will be waiting after.
October mornings in Smithfield can start crisp. A light jacket or layer is perfect, you may shed it mid-trail.
Windsor Castle Park in October is genuinely beautiful. The overlooks, the bridges, the marshes, you'll want to capture it.
